Facts

Maharashtra is the second highest exporting state from India in FY 2023-24 with INR 5.56 lakh crore exports i.e., 15.37% of total exports from India. The top 5 exporting districts from the state are Mumbai Suburban, Mumbai City, Pune and Thane, contributing 74% of state’s total exports.

The top 10 importing countries form the State are USA, UAE, Hong Kong, Belgium, UK, China, Italy, Netherland, Germany, and Mexico.

All the districts in Maharashtra are exporting districts and have connectivity facilitated by air cargo terminals and Free Trade Zones. Top 5 Exporting Districts in FY 2023-24 with an exceptional growth compared to previous financial year FY 2022-23 are Amravati (108%), Chandrapur (93%), Washim (34%), Wardha (28%), and Sindhudurg (24%).

The major sectors contributing to the Maharashtra’s export are Gems & Jewellery (22.84%), Engineering (11.39%), Electronics and Electrical Components (17.30%), Chemicals (10.09%) and Pharmaceuticals (5.75%).

Achievements

The state secured 2nd rank for the year 2022 in Export Preparedness Index (EPI) ranking published by NITI Aayog. Maharashtra is mapped as the leading state in India in the Export Ecosystem pillar and export infrastructure by the report.

The state of Maharashtra has the highest number of NABL-accredited Labs with 599 Labs and highest NABCB certification inspection agencies, with 55.

Maharashtra has held the highest number of trade fairs/exhibitions (110) and capacity building workshops (642) for its exporters which enable them to enter global markets.
